How your wages are figured
The basis is your gross weekly earnings at the time of injury: regular recurring pay before deductions, not counting irregular bonuses, retroactive pay, overtime, penalty pay or expense reimbursements. Your spendable earnings and weekly rate come from the Division's ratebook, using your gross earnings and number of exemptions.
How long it can last
TTD continues until you return to work or are medically capable of returning to work substantially similar to the job you had when injured, whichever comes first.
TTD pays 80% of your weekly spendable earnings (your gross weekly earnings minus payroll taxes, which depend on your marital status and number of exemptions). For injuries from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the maximum is $2,431 a week and the minimum is $425 a week or your spendable earnings, whichever is lower. Rates change every July 1.
For injuries from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 the TTD maximum is $2,431 and the minimum $425 a week or spendable earnings if lower (previous year: $2,350 and $411). The Workers' Compensation Division became part of the Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing, and its procedures now appear in Iowa Code chapter 10A.
